TotalEnergies to Partially Exit PP Force Majeure at Texas Plant
07/28/2021

TotalEnergies plans to partially end its Force Majeure (FM) on Polypropylene from its La Porte, Texas facility around the start of August. In a letter to customers, the company said the updated FM plan was due to most production units running well with minimal issues at the La Porte facility.

"Exiting Force Majeure will not open the door to unlimited supply," TotalEnergies said in its letter. "We will need additional time to rebuild our inventories to reasonable levels. This is especially important as we are currently in the Gulf Coast hurricane season."

Since mid-February, the La Porte FM has been in place following the severe winter weather that affected production and logistics in the Houston area.

PP supply availability has been tight since the February, and producers are still rebuilding inventory to regular supply positions. At least four other PP producers still have allocations in place.
