TotalEnergies Ends Polypropylene Force Majeure at Texas Facility
08/27/2021

TotalEnergies ended the Polypropylene (PP) Force Majeure (FM) at its La Porte facility in Texas this week. The company confirmed it was ending its FM in a letter to customers on Thursday.

TotalEnergies partially ended the FM in early August, saying it would need additional time to rebuild inventory levels, especially during the US Gulf hurricane season.

The announcement follows other resin suppliers this month that have either lifted a FM, or sought to make inventory more available. LyondellBasell lifted FM on PP at its Bayport facility in Texas earlier in the month, while ExxonMobil said discontinued allocating PP sales, but implemented a sales control program until it too can rebuild inventories to balanced levels.

At least four PP suppliers remain on FM, which were implemented following Winter Storm Uri in February, which severely impacted the US petrochemical and polymer production and logistics supply chain.
