Braskem Ends Polypropylene Force Majeure
September 07, 2021

Braskem has lifted its Force Majeure (FM) on Polypropylene (PP), affective September 7, 2021.

In a letter to customers, the company said although it was lifting FM regarding the PP availability remains limited. Braskem also said it has a planned maintenance turnaround at one of its facilities during Q4 and it anticipates remaining on sales allocation in the following months.

The announcement comes one week after Pinnacle Polymers shut its Garyville PP facility in Louisiana, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. ExxonMobil, which was on a PP sales control program until it rebuilt inventories to balanced levels, shut its Baton Rouge complex in late August ahead of Hurricane Ida. The Baton Rouge facilities, which includes PP production, did not sustain any significant damage from Ida and was safely progressing restart procedures last week.

TotalEnergies and LyondellBasell recently ended FMs at their Texas facilities during August, but at least four other US PP producers are still on FM.
