Explosion at Westlake Louisiana Ethylene Unit Under Investigation September 28, 2021
Westlake said an explosion at an Ethylene unit late Monday in Sulphur, LA, is now under investigation. The company said the explosion at the Petro 2 Ethylene plant injured six contract workers who were transported to local hospitals for treatment. However, local news reports said the number of workers injured was at five.
The Ethylene unit was undergoing planned maintenance at the time of the accident, and there was no offsite impact and no fire as a result of the accident.
Westlake also produces Polyethylene and Styrene at the Sulphur facility, but the company did not say if those other units were affected by the explosion.
