Dow Raising North American Specialty Resin Prices in January
December 02, 2021

Dow intends to raise prices for specialty resin products in North America at the start of 2022. In a price letter sent to customers, the company said it was increasing prices by $.15-.20/lb for specialty resins sold in the US and Canada, effective January 1, 2022.

Dow's increase comes a day after company CFO Howard Ungerleider said the company expects continued global Polyethylene demand strength to outstrip additional supply expected online in the coming weeks at facilities in the US Gulf and East Coast.

US resin producers, including Dow, have reported strong margins throughout much of 2021 after Winter Storm Uri in February forced many companies to shut production in the Gulf Coast region. This led resin prices to record highs during the year, which has gradually come down in recent months for some resin markets, specifically Polyethylene and Polypropylene.

However, production for resin markets such as PVC, PET and EVA took another hit in September and October following Hurricane Ida and is still returning to normal operating rates.
